Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)

To help children participate more fully in the Mass, Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered during the 10:30 am Sunday Mass throughout the school year. Children aged 4 years through Year 4 (Grade 4) are warmly invited to take part.

There is no registration or fee—children simply join the entrance procession at the 10:30 am Mass. Parents are welcome and encouraged to accompany their children for the first few weeks until they feel comfortable.

What Happens at Little Church?
  • The children gather with their leaders, process to the altar at the start of Mass, and are blessed and sent forth by the priest.
  • They move to a separate space, where the Gospel is proclaimed by one of the adult leaders.
  • An age-appropriate reflection follows—through stories, pictures, or discussion—helping children understand and connect with the Word of God.
  • Children are invited to share their own thoughts and may take part in a simple activity.
  • They return to the church at the Presentation of the Gifts and later join the priests in the exit procession. Parents collect their children outside the church after Mass.
Supporting Little Church

The success of Little Church depends on the time and talent of parishioners who serve the needs of our children.

Parents can help by:

  • Encouraging their children (ages 4–Grade 4) to participate.
  • Asking their children about what they learned after Mass.

Volunteers are needed as:

  • Adult Leaders – proclaim the Sunday readings, lead prayers, and guide the reflection (scheduled every 4–6 weeks).
  • Adult Helpers – assist with supervision, ensuring a safe and prayerful environment (scheduled every 4–6 weeks).

All leaders and helpers receive orientation, training, and ongoing support from the program director. At least two adults are always present with the children.

Safeguarding

In line with parish policy, all adults working with children and youth must meet safeguarding requirements before serving in this ministry.
