Dear members and friends of St Brigid’s Parish Family

Update – Church & Parish Office Re-Opening

Thank you for your support and prayers during this time of pandemic.

I am pleased to advise that our church will now reopen after deep cleaning was undertaken on Monday in line with NSW Health guidelines.

The deep cleaning of the Church was done as a precautionary measure as NSW Health had advised that the parishioners who had tested positive for COVID-19 (who attended the Vigil Mass on Sat 25 July) were not believed to be infectious at the time they attended the church. Additionally, only as a precautionary measure, parish staff members have also been tested and have all received negative results.

I am happy to advise that the Church will reopen for masses this weekend, 8 and 9 August.  Masses will be as previously advertised – 5pm Saturday vigil, Sunday 8.00am,10.30am and 6.00pm; the Vietnamese masses at 7.00pm Saturday and 4.00pm Sunday. The weekday masses will also resume as previously scheduled from Monday10 August. The parish office will be open again   from 9am Friday 7 August.

We have been delighted with your wonderful co-operation with the changes we have had to make regarding attendance at masses during this difficult time.  It is indeed very much appreciated.  It is most important that, for as long as is necessary, we all maintain the present high standard of our efforts to take precautions and strictly follow the correct procedures to avoid careless contact and possible infection. The health and safety of our parishioners, visitors and Passionist community is, and has always been, a priority.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney Chancery has advised parishes of the following recommendations by NSW Health:
It is now recommended that people wear masks when they are in crowded places and social distancing is not easy to maintain. NSW Health states examples such as public transport and places of worship.

Our Vicar-General, Fr Gerry Gleeson, has asked that we inform our parishioners that the government has recommended masks when they are present at religious services, adding: “With so much concern in the community, it is vital that we keep our churches safe and open for worship, and that our people know their church is safe.”

In accordance with these recommendations and following discussions with the parish team and key committee members, we ask that ALL parishioners attending masses please wear a face mask. Young children are exempt, unless you as a parent think they are old enough to wear one.

Face masks may be removed briefly for the reception of the Blessed Sacrament.

St Brigid’s parish is not in a position to provide a face mask for everyone and we ask that you might kindly assist by providing your own.

We will continue to review our procedures as NSW Health advice changes and remind you that if you are not feeling well you should not attend Mass.

Thank you once again for your kind patience at this time.

With Peace,

Erick & Parish Team
